PraiseMoves-The Christian ALTERNATIVE to Yoga
Ever wonder what Yoga is all about? Yoga is about Hinduism. According to Yogacharya Vishwas Mandlik, Vice Chancellor of Yoga at Vidya Gurukul (Yoga University)“The term Hatha Yoga has been commonly used to describe the practice of asana (poses). The syllable ‘ha’ denotes the pranic (vital) force governing the physical body and ‘tha’ denotes the chitta (mental) force thus making Hatha Yoga a catalyst to an awakening of the two energies that govern our lives. More correctly the techniques described in Hatha Yoga harmonize and purify the body systems and focus the mind in preparation for more advanced chakra and kundalini practices.
After studying Yoga to become a Yoga Instructor, there were a lot of strange terminology that I had to become familiar with and understand the supposedly "spiritual and physical" benefits of Yoga. However, as a Christian things did not feel right. I was getting introduced to this new age movement that involves connecting with Spiritual Guides which according to the bible is prohibited. Exodus 20:3-6 "You shall have no other gods before Me. "You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. "You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing loving kindness to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments. Since Yoga has over 330 million gods, that are associated with the many poises, then you you have your answer if what you are doing is wrong.
It was not until I was in seminary school where I learned that Yoga is something forbidden as Christians. Christians should not be idolizing any other god, other than Jesus Christ as our Lord and savior. After research and trying to find an alternative to Yoga, I came across PraiseMoves. Thank the Lord for PraiseMoves. I started with the videos and got very interested after a practicing for a while, I signed up for the instructor course and the rest is history. Since then, I still get the benefits of physical stretching but with PraiseMoves, I am building and strengthening my relationship with God! The foundation of PraiseMoves is the Word of God which we speak aloud or meditate upon while doing the PraiseMoves postures. So the next time you are practicing yoga and saying to yourself, I am just doing this for the physical benefits, think again about the spiritual side that you are exposing yourself to. With PraiseMoves, you get the physical benefits along with a number of health benefits, but with our Lord and our Savior.
